Support Palm Bay Firefighters

As the City of Palm Bay continues to drag out negotiations for a new contract, the city firefighters still display a level of dedication and professionalism in performing their duties. Recent events illustrate why Palm Bay officials should come to their senses and quickly approve a contract, thereby ending this distraction for the firefighters. A rash of recent fires around Palm Bay may be the work of an arsonist (Link). And just today, another brush fire was quickly contained by the city firefighters (Link).

It is time for Palm Bay officials to settle this contract matter once and for all. The firefighters are not asking for any increases to their existing contract even though they would certainly deserve them. These brave individuals risk life and limb keeping the citizens and property of Palm Bay safe from the ravages of accidental fires and the work of arsonists.

I encourage all Palm Bay residents to contact their elected city officials and ask them to settle the contract for the professionals of the Palm Bay Fire Department.

A rash of recent fires while contract negotiations are being settled? Suspicious? Why not more detail in the article about what exactly they are negotiating, if not a pay increase?

Actually they found some of the fire where started by a 14 year old and he is being charged. That shows who pays attention to our news. If you read past posts on this issue Fernando has explained in great detail to what they are neogating. Why should he have to go and repeat posts for people. Read before you write. Palm Bay fire fighters are protecting the pepople in the city that live here. We should all support them. Our taxes in Palm Bay should go to more then filling in the dirt roads day after day because people what to mud and then complain the roads have gullies. Well take care of what is being done to help your roads go mudding in your own back yard.

This article holds no water. It was written by a Union man.
"The firefighters are not asking for any increases to their existing contract even though they would certainly deserve them." Based upon what? Need? Heroics? Union dues gone up?
Gotta do more with less. Who knows, maybe they started the fires.

PB firefighters need to realize that all the years of them soaking the City for every penny are over. Firefighter contracts will be scrutinized just as thoroughly as any other contract. Fire and Police are not "entitled" to raises or any other thing else only because they are fire or police. Cutbacks are occuring everywhere, and should be happening in the fire and police contracts as well. Fernando Rendon .."business agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 606"... what exactly is that job??? Sounds like some type of used car, insurance, or telemarketing salesman!

It is always the working person and not the big corporate executives that have to open up a contract or settle for less in a contract. The big corporations just keep on with what they have negotiated and that’s ok to the public. Even if it is 500 times larger than their employees. I just do not get it? How people are tricked into this belief and then attack the workers for what they have negotiated.

I and my family support the Palm Bay Firefighters, as well as all of the other emergency services personnel and thank them for all that they do for our community every day. You do not need to witness these guys responding to a house fire in the middle of a huricane as I did in 2004, to know that they are there for us 24/7. You can bet that none of the cynics posting here would turn down PBFD help if they needed it.

Well, since the Palm Bay city council is heavily Democrat (4 out of 5), I guess we know who we should blame.

You need to know your facts, there are 2 real democrats, a make believe one, one independent and one republican on City Council. Not everyone on council is for cutting their pension, call the council members and see how they really feel, not what the paper says. You would be surprised.

9/11 anyone one remember? I guess you are a hero when it only cost you the price of an American Flag or bumper sticker, but honor a hero by paying a few more bucks in taxes, not on your life. Perhaps it is on your life. Any of these computer patriots going to volunteer for life services to the community?

10:04, ok so there is a 3 to 1 democrat ratio with 1 independent. This hardly sounds like a republican problem, since this poster frequently targets republicans in his posts.

Any person who enters a burning building to save my stuff or stands in front of a loaded gun to protect me and my rights deserves all the respect and monetary gratitude our community can offer.

There is one on council who supports the Firefighters and that one person can't do it on their own. Call Council and support the firefighters who saves lives, who risked everything and who probably won't live as long as everyone else becuase of what they do.
